Requirements

Anyone over 21 years of age or who holds a Bachelors degree is eligible to join the USC for a year of full-time volunteer service.

Budget for a Volunteer:

A USC volunteer year costs about $15,000. This includes room and board (including the maintenance and repair of our two over-100 year old homes), health insurance and health costs, workers' compensation insurance, $75/month personal stipend and $25/month in discretionary spending for cultural enrichment and fun, and administrative costs. It also includes program administration and staff support.

Placement agencies pay $952.75 per month for a total of $11,433 per year for their full-time volunteer. The USC fundraises the remaining funds, close to $4,000 per volunteer. Volunteers may be asked to contact their friends and family for support during their volunteer year as a part of this effort.

We rely on the generous support of individual donations and church contributions to make up the difference between agency contributions and real costs. Please consider supporting USC as a part of your annual giving, or ask your church to write us into their budget.

Requirements

Applications for the 2009-2010 volunteer year are no longer being accepted. Please consider applying for the 2010-2011 year!

Applications will be accepted at any time during the year, but will be considered on a first come, first serve basis. Applications are accepted in the Urban Servant Corps Office at 1660 Ogden Street, Denver, CO, 80218 or by e-mail here on the first of February, March, and April. However applications are accepted on an on-going basis until our communities are full. If you're interested in applying after the early due dates, call or e-mail us to inquire about openings. Each community year typically begins on the last Sunday of August.

Once the two to three communities are filled, applicants will be placed on a waiting list or referred to another service volunteer program. Reference letters are due as soon as possible after the application is received.
